In the 76s, current world champion, Sonja Stefanie Krüger, gave herself a fright by missing her first two squats. When she finally did manage her 267.5kg opener, she shot into the lead and took the gold medal. More drama when she opened on a world record bench of 195.5kg and once again missed her first and second. True pro, she nailed it on her third, taking the record from Poland's Agata Sitko.
Big deadlifter Marte Elverum challenged Krüger towards the end of the competition. She attempted a new deadlift world record at 261.5kg to try to come past but it was not to be and Krüger took her second open world title and netted a brand new world record to add to her collection.

The 120kg class saw a squat world record battle between Sen Yang and Danylo Kovalov. Yang extended his own record to 447.kg with an effortless looking lift but then Kovalov, only recently moved up to this class, made 448kg look just as easy. Undeterred, Yang regained the record with 452.5kg, having added 12kg to the record. Again, the lift looked effortless and it’s hard to judge where his top end is.
Yang took the bench gold too with 332.5kg and led at sub-total but we all knew that the reigning world champion, Oleksiy Bychkov would reverse that with his monster deadlift. As expected, Bychkov went 10 kilos ahead after opening his deadlift with 360kg and followed that up with a second of 375kg that sealed the deal.
